KDE 3.1 almost done
The Linux desktop environment that wants so badly to be part XP, part OS X has reached the RC2 stage. KDE 3.1 features a new default Crystal theme that should keep Redmond's and Cupertino's lawyers busy, nice anti-aliased fonts, and the usual rigamorole. I'm not sure that Linux will ever truly make it on the desktop, given the unbelievable advances Microsoft and, to a much lesser extent, Apple are making these days. But KDE 3.1 still reeks of copycat to me, and that's just not that interesting.
