Phoenix
OK, I finally got my hands on Phoenix, the new Mozilla/browser project that separates the Web browser product from the rest of Mozilla. So far... There's not much to say. It is what it sounds like, complete with a nice Orbit default theme. No biggie, and not as nice as Chimera.

The man knows, the man knows
I spend so much time being disappointed with stupidity that it's a welcome change to point out someone who actually does get it. This guy writes about why Apple is doing what it's doing with iChat and Rendezvous, and he's right. That doesn't mean that Apple is doing anything wrong, of course. But the way Mac sites write this stuff up, you'd think Steve Jobs was dropping technology on us from Mount Olympus.

Chimera 0.5 is out!
My favorite browser on any platform has been updated to version 0.5. Chimera is a Mozilla-based Web browser only (no mail, news, or chat), and it runs on Mac OS X only. Unlike most Mozilla apps, Chimera uses native UI (in this case OS X Cocoa) for the shell. So unlike most Mozilla apps, it's also small and fast. Good stuff, and if this is what Phoenix will be like on Windows XP, I'm all over it.

Jagwyre
After two weeks of steady travel, I finally got home about 24 hours ago to find my copy of Mac OS X 10.2 "Jaguar" waiting for me. So I installed it--twice--on the iBook, first as an upgrade, and then as a clean install (aka the way God intended). Initial thoughts: There is zero performance improvement, the new Windows networking browsing feature is decent but not perfect, the install takes way too long, and I like the new default wallpaper. I'll report more as I get to it, but what I'm really waiting for is iCal.
