Games, games, and more games
Brian told me about an interesting game called Mafia, which looks not a little bit like Max Payne. But Mafia is far more involved, with some amazing car chase scenes that look to push the interactive envelope quite a bit. I'll check it out soon. In the meantime, I've picked up American McGee's Alice, which is a year old but only $13 now at Best Buy. And the demo for the long-awaited Unreal Tournament 2003 is out too, a whopping 100 MB download. Good stuff all around.

Opera 6 Beta 1 for Mac OS X I wouldn't touch this thing on Windows, but it's pretty sweet on OS X. Could we have a new browser contender? I'll test for a few days and find out.

Mandrake 9.0 released
Too bad it sucks. Now that Red Hat has embraced the desktop, Red Hat 8.0, even in beta, is the standard by which all other Linux desktops will be judged. And Mandrake 9.0 just isn't cutting it. However, LindowsOS just got a positive review: Is this thing for real?

Phoenix 0.1 "Pescadero" released
As promised, Phoenix 0.1 is out, with a customizable toolbar, a default Orbit theme, and much better performance than Mozilla. It's only available for Windows and Linux, however.
