Carmack on DOOM III
Gamespot and Gamespy cover a talk id Software programming guru John Carmack gave this week at E3. Among the DOOM III details he reveals: Id is using motion capture to animate humans but is still doing monsters by hand, they're debating how to handle saved games (any time you want vs. at specific points only), and a debate over performance issues: Carmack favors scaling resolution as the best means to increase performance without killing graphics quality, but he's undecided on whether the user will be able to turn off shadows, since they're central to the game's dramatic scenes.
