If the company had any credibility at all, it would have simply sold the G5 as the fastest Mac ever, and the equal or near-equal to most high-end PCs. Such claims would have been accurate but, naturally, not the bold type of splash Apple likes to make. Apple kind of painted itself in a corner when it claimed that the increasingly pathetic G4 chip was faster than a Pentium 4, though, so I guess it had little choice. This is one of those times when telling a single lie causes it to just get worse the more you talk. As a publicly-held company, Apple should be more responsible.
