Pictures from Germany
I'm posting pictures from the Germany trip on thurrott.com. After today, it's unclear how often I'll be online, but I'll post more when I can.

NT Forum
Woke to rain and cool temperatures, which was just fine with me. Today is the day of my keynote at NT Forum in Bonn, but it's not until 4:00 so I have some time to kill. After a nice breakfast at the Bonn Hilton which was oddly reminsicent of what I used to eat in Israel, I headed over to Beethoven Hall, where the event is being held (Bonn is the birthplace of Beethoven). There I met up with Wolf, who is one of the people running NT Forum. We tested the mic and the presentation, and then I headed back to the room to work on some magazine stuff and Beekman 6e. I'll probably eat lunch at the hotel, too, and then go do the talk. Tonight, more work, and then tomorrow Steph, Jeff and Kerry arrive. The time change stuff is weird to me: I'll be at the computer for 4-5 hours today before anyone I know in the states even wakes up, and then just before I leave for the show at 2:45 here, it will be barely late enough to call home.

Bonn, Germany
Traveling to Germany is just like traveling to San Francisco, except I can't read any of the signs and I can't understand anything anyone is saying. I picked up the rental car, a VW Sharan van (Choose Sharan from the Modelle list), which features a turbo-diesel engine (eh) and a stick shift (awesome). Clearly, I need to stay out of the left lane here (I was waved off twice, which I didn't appreciate very much). The highway was fine, but I got totally lost in Bonn, which is a pretty, pretty city. After driving around for an hour or two, I came to the conclusion that I had totally inadequate maps, and hopefully the arrival of Jeff (coming with Kerry and Steph tomorrow) will solve that problem, not because Jeff is a good navigator, but because he bought good maps. The time change stuff is a mess, but I think my not sleeping on the plane helped as I crashed last night (day for me) and got up really early (5:00 am Bonn time). Today is NT Forum, the talk, and the castle event. Tomorrow morning, Steph and Jeff and Kerry arrive and we do the tourist thing.

London Heathrow
A little London is better than none, but now that I'm here, I have to resist the urge to run out the door and disappear forever. But... while I'm here, I will at least have a traditional English breakfast with coffee. A slice of heaven.

To Germany
The in-flight system tells me we're now flying at 642 mph, 36,000 feet above the Atlantic, 2:48 hours away from London. Big plane, business class, great service, and, best of all, in-seat power for my laptop. Life is grand.

Mozilla Firebird 0.6 is out
The refreshingly-TM-free Mozilla Firebird 0.6 release is out, featuring a "crisp, fresh and attractive" (eh) new theme based on Qute, a nicely redesigned Preferences window, better access to privacy options, a context-enabled bookmark menu, and some other new features. I'm testing it on Mac OS X, so it's slower than molasses, but it looks pretty good. However, it can't touch Safari, of course. But I guess I'll have one use for it: Safari isn't currently compatible with Blogger Pro, which I use to post to this site.
