Apple's Q3 2005 market share: 2.2 percent

It's that time of the year again. Apple recently revealed that it sold 1.236 million computers in its most recent quarter. And IDC and Gartnet chimed in with total PC sales for that same quarter: 54 million units. (Gartner said 55 million units, while IDC said 53 million, so that's the average of the two.) That means that in a quarter in which Apple reported dramatic 48 percent growth, it commanded a whopping 2.2 percent of the overall PC market. Is it starting to become more obvious why even 5 percent is an elusive goal?
