About this siteFor six years, the Internet Nexus served as my technology blog, but I've since started blogging at the SuperSite Blog instead. If you're looking for the blog, please head there. --Paul Saturday, April 08, 2006ParallelsSo I've gotten XP Pro with SP2 up and running under Parallels in Mac OS X on the Intel-based Mac mini. It works fine--i.e. like you'd expect any Virtual PC-like virtual machine environment to work--but is horrifically slow on the base machine I'm using (which has just 512 MB of RAM, 64 of which are dedicated to video). Because Parallels recommends just 148 MB of RAM for XP on this system, and because of other limitations of the single core Intel chip the Mac mini utilizes, this obviously isn't a best case scenario. I've seen some impressive but dubious performance figures for Parallels online, but I'll see what happens when I bump the system up to 1 GB of RAM. Obviously, a dual core MacBook Pro or iMac would experience better performance regardless. [ Posted at 4:03 PM | Permalink ]
